Linux IP tables and NSF crossmounting

AMMRLers,

I am trying to export the data directory from my (Bruker) spectrometer
linux box to my linux datastation. This worked just fine when the
spectrometer was an SGI, but not now.

I can ssh between the two computers, and I can export a directory from
the datastation to the spectrometer. But, when I try to export a
directory from the spectrometer to the datastation, no go. The specific
error message is:
mount: RPC: Remote system error - No route to host

I have seen this before, when playing with iptables. However, as best I
can tell, the iptables on both computers are the same.

So, two sets of questions:

1) What else might give that error, what else should I try, etc.

2) iptables look like a good way to tighten up security. Does anyone
have a table done that shuts out most things, but allows a few trusted
hosts to ssh, telnet, ftp, nsf mount?

thanks,

kas
