Specialty Chemical Division is seeking a qualified candidate in NMR
spectroscopy for a position in the Analytical Services and Technology
(AS&T) group in the Global Technology Department.
AS&T has three NMR spectrometers – 300 and 400 MHz Varian systems and a
500 MHz Bruker system. The instruments are used for high resolution NMR of
polymers and related materials, as well as some solid state NMR work.
As a member of Analytical Services and Technology, you will:
· Use NMR spectroscopy to solve problems supporting the research
efforts and business groups of Ashland Inc. and its customers.
· Interact with clients to provide high quality work and high customer
satisfaction.
· Provide periodic maintenance of equipment, including cryogen filling,
performance testing, troubleshooting, and computer maintenance (Unix,
Windows)
· Implement and develop new techniques to meet the demands of a
fast-paced analytical environment.
Required skills:
· A Ph.D. in chemistry with a strong background in NMR spectroscopy and
0-5 years of post-graduate experience is desired. Non-Ph.D. candidates
with additional experience will also be considered.
· Knowledge of NMR theory, software, and applications of high
resolution NMR to the analysis of unknown organic compounds.
· Solid state NMR experience is desirable, but not necessary.
· Experience in other analytical techniques (IR, MS, etc.) is a plus.
· Strong computer administration skills.
· Clear writing and communication skills.
· Ability to interact with chemists and customers with a variety of
needs.
