Dear all,
I received lots of replies to my request for info on internal
charging rates. It is difficult to summarize these thoroughly as
several different charging models are in use, and different costs are
recovered. Most institutions use hourly rates, and the majority with
on/off peak variations. But some charge a higher rate for the first
hour than for subsequent hours. And some places have avoided charges
altogether.
The table below is a slightly adjusted summary of the figures I
received, in order of increasing rate. Where two changes are
separated by a slash, they are on and off peak rates.
Here at UCI we are somewhere in the middle, so we can stand a small
increase without outraging the users. Determining this was the object
of the exercise for me.
