Hello,
Calling all you NMR Facility managers/Directors who are part of a larger center with other facilities: have a couple minutes to share information about your management structure? I would welcome examples of facilities which are under a larger umbrella that is not directly the university, provost, college or department. How are the brother and sister facilities organized under this umbrella (who reports to who)? What titles are used (faculty or staff designations)? How are responsibilities distributed?
For example, the management structure may look like this:
Senior Faculty Director of Instrument Facilities (for example mass spec, NMR, X-ray)
{reports to chair and shares information at faculty meetings & addresses faculty concerns}
-Administrative Assistant { reports to Senior Faculty Director; invoicing, accounting, HR, etc}
-Facility Directors { reports to Senior Faculty Director; individual facility oversight, non-routine experiment, training, research consultation, etc.}
- full time technical staff {reports to Facility Director; cryogen fills, routine maintenance & repair, training, etc.}
- Student Assistant {reports to Facility Director; cryogen fills, run samples, etc.}
