Assistant NMR Facility Manager

The Chemistry Department at the University of Arizona is seeking an
Assistant NMR Facility Manager with strong technical and interpersonal
skills to assist the running of a large research and teaching support facility.

Duties include:
    * Magnet maintenance of 6 NMRs (200 MHz – 600 MHz, both Varian and
Bruker) including cryogen filling, shimming and performance testing
    * Equipment trouble shooting and interfacing with vendor service
personnel to provide reliable NMR service
    * UNIX computer management
    * Repairs, preventative maintenance and use of diagnostic equipment to
maintain equipment at highest level of performance
    * Upgrade implementation to provide improved equipment capabilities
    * Customer service including sample service, training of students and
supervision of trainees
    * Clerical duties such as record keeping, accounting and billing
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    * Knowledge of NMR theory, software and applications
    * Experience in repair and maintenance of NMR instruments or equivalent
radio frequency technology
    * Proficiency in use of electronic diagnostic and troubleshooting tools
(oscilloscope, sweeper, frequency counter etc)
    * Basic understanding of structural organic chemistry
    * Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and teach in small
groups and individually
    * Proficiency with commonly used PC and UNIX software; preferred UNIX
management experience

Minimum qualification:
    * Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physics or Electronics Engineering
AND two years of experience in the field of NMR installation, repair or
maintenance; OR Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or
education approved by Human Resources.
