Omega 400 Problem

Dear Spinlanders:

I have a vintage 1991 Omega 400 WB NMR Spectrometer. It has performed
admirably well until recently, when it started crashing periodically.
Most of the time, it would complete the reboot properly and we can go
on. Other times, on reboot it would go through most of the booting
procedure correctly, except when it comes to NMRIXD. There it says
"NMRIXD started. NMRIXD unable to open /dev/saivme0 : no such device or
address". Sometimes, the same error would appear as "Saivemeopen error:
board not present".

In the meantime I also swapped most of the computer console PC Boards,
one by one from a recently decommissioned (but working) Omega 4.7 T
system. However, the problem persisted. Recently, I swapped the whole
computer console, except the hard disks, with the console from the 4.7 T
system, with no luck. My logic in swapping the console was that maybe
there was a bad contact or something on the back-plane or somewhere else.

Needless to say I am at a loss. If any Omega experts out there have
any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
